Do you have a Bachelor’s Degree and background in Parks and Recreation management? We are searching for a Deputy Director for the Chatham County Parks and Recreation Department.
Under general supervision of the Parks and Recreation Director, you
- Assist in developing, directing, and managing the overall operations of the Parks and Recreation Department, including programs, facilities, and personnel.
- Plan, develop, schedule, direct and implement county-wide recreational programs and maintenance initiatives.
- Assist with the development and implementation of the department budget.
- Monitor expenditures and write specifications for the purchase of equipment, materials, supplies, and contractual services.
- Monitor environments to ensure the safety of employees and other individuals.
- Oversee recreation and sports programming for the County, including publication and distribution of marketing materials, community outreach, and promotional planning.
- Utilize customer service skills as you interact with other County departments and the public.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Parks and Recreation Administration, Recreation Science, Public Administration, or related field; and
- At least seven (7) years of management experience in Parks and Recreation management, and overall management of municipal infrastructure; or
- Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
- Certification as Park and Recreation Professional or Park and Recreation Executive (CPRP/CPRE).
Successful candidates will possess these qualifications:
- Knowledge of supervisory and administrative techniques and methods, including budget preparation methods.
- Knowledge of the rules and regulations of a wide variety of group social, recreational, and sports activities.
- Ability to lead, direct, supervise, and evaluate the work of others.
- Ability to communicate effectively with others, both orally and in writing.

During emergencies and disasters affecting Chatham County, you may be required to report to work as part of a disaster operations team.
In accordance with the Department of Transportation, Commercial Driver's License (CDL) holders and those employed in safety-sensitive positions are subject to random drug testing.
Candidates with direct and relevant experience may receive an offer of up to 10% above the minimum salary that is posted, reflecting their exceptional qualifications.
