Program Coordinator-Athletics
Are you a leader in recreation programming and coordination and looking to join a leading City in metro Atlanta to take on the planning of programs and activities for the community?
The purpose of this position is to plan, organize, and facilitate recreation and leisure programming for adults and children. Under limited supervision, this job is responsible for coordinating recreation programming for the Department. Duties include developing, planning, organizing, and supervising diversified programs and activities for the community.
Essential Functions:
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Oversees, coordinates, and administers sports-related programs, in consultation with and as directed by department leaders.
- Plans and supervises recreational programs for youth sports, contract classes, and/or other recreation programs.
- Establishes joint use agreements with school districts, affiliation agreements with other organizations, and collaborations with local and state organizations.
- Manages multiple programs involving leisure programs, and special activities.
- Assigns facilities, staff, and resources to leisure recreation programs.
- Recommends policy and procedures to the Director.
- Coordinates, recruits, trains, and supervises temporary seasonal and volunteer staff.
- Conducts informational meetings with staff and volunteers concerning policies, procedures, rules, and regulations related to their specific assigned activities.
- Assists in developing, justifying, implementing, and monitoring budget expenditures.
- Assists in producing monthly reports on athletic and leisure recreation programs to ensure goals are met.
- Oversees the marketing of athletic and leisure recreation programs and activities.
- Manages and develops partnerships with contracted vendors.
- Serves as a liaison for the Recreation Division with other divisions, departments, and outside agencies.
- Assists in the preparation of federal and state grants and seeks sponsorships, gifts, and donations.
- Responds to requests and inquiries from the general public.
- Coordinates and oversees all GRPA athletic events and attends GRPA District meetings for athletic team qualifications
- Hires qualified candidates for coaching/ athletic aide staff for programs.
- Conducts sports leagues at contracted facilities and enters all GRPA teams into state tournaments as needed.
- Conducts program audits for athletic leagues that may need changing or discarding
- Purchases and evaluates all supplies for programs.
Additional Functions:
Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree;
- Three (3) years of previous experience in recreation management to include coordination of organized recreation; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Specific License or Certification Required:
- Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license.
- Certification in parks and recreation preferred.
- Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP) and Certified Youth Sports Administrator (CYSA) preferred.
Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities:
- Knowledge of operational characteristics, services, and activities of a park maintenance program. Knowledge of materials, methods, practices, and equipment used in park repair activities.
- Knowledge of municipal purchasing policy and procedures. Knowledge of contract and project management principles and practices relating to maintenance and parks activities.
- Knowledge of principles and practices of employee supervision, including work planning, assignment review and evaluation, and training of staff in work procedures.
- Knowledge of principles and practices of conflict resolution. Knowledge of safety principles, practices, and procedures of assigned systems and facilities, including related equipment and materials.
- Knowledge of a variety of office equipment such as facsimile machines, photocopiers, and multi-line telephone systems.
- Skill in communication, both verbally and in written form. Ability to operate a motor vehicle. Ability to use personal computer and software applications for creating spreadsheets, correspondence, presentations, reports, databases, etc.
- Proficient in spelling, punctuation, and grammar.

- Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert medium physical effort in light to medium work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials up to 50 pounds. Tasks may involve balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, grasping, handling, kneeling, reaching, repetitive motions, standing, stooping, walking, and extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.
- Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
- Environmental Factors: Essential functions are regularly performed outside and subject to all type of weather and temperature conditions. The worker may be exposed to chemicals, solvents, fumes, smoke and gases, and various types of surfaces, including slippery or uneven surfaces.
