Recreation Operations Manager
The City of Woodstock, Georgia is seeking a Recreation Operations Manager. This full-time position, under general direction of the Parks and Recreation Director, the Recreation Operations Manager is responsible for coordinating, planning, and scheduling recreation activities, programs, and events at city parks and facilities to meet the leisure needs and interests of the citizens of Woodstock; Develops, markets and oversees activities, programs and events for children, youth, adults, senior adults, and other special populations as well as those from various economic and cultural backgrounds; Coordinates year-round fitness, wellness, and outdoor recreation programs and activities; Responsible for preparing recurring operational reports, maintains attendance records of programs, events and activities, and maintains statistics, documents, and assist in the development of policies and procedures for the recreation division. This position also has assigned responsibilities in maintenance and documentation of the department’s national accreditation.
Job Responsibilities:
- Plans, organizes and coordinates the development and implementation of community recreation programs, activities and events.
- Organizes and supervises classes, workshops and activities in recreation programs, special events, and co-sponsored programs and events.
- Prepares and facilitates memorandums of understanding, rental contracts and reservations for recreation programs and rentals at parks, trails and facilities.
- Surveys leisure interests and needs of the general public.
- Selects, plans and implements special interest leisure, fitness, and outdoor recreation activities and programs.
- Responds to public inquiries made by telephone, correspondence, social media or during public meetings.
- Prepares for publication a variety of brochures, calendars, letters, posters, news releases, flyers, social media posts and related communications regarding city recreation programs.
- Coordinates schedules and maintains related records and statistics for programs, special events, and personnel.
- Hires, supervises and evaluates assigned staff. Recommends disciplinary action as needed.
- Schedules and runs Community wellness, fitness, and outdoor recreation activities, programs, and special events throughout the year.
- Conducts systematic ongoing evaluation of recreation programs and services.
- Prepares and administers budget for all community, recreation programs, and events.
- Solicits sponsorships and donations for programs and events.
- Oversees and is accountable for all concession operations at city facilities, ensuring accurate cash handling policies and procedures are adhered to.
- Makes presentations before Parks and Recreation Advisory Board and City Council and staff as assigned.
- Attend seminars and workshops related to administrative duties and responsibilities.
- Serves as a member of various employee committees, as assigned.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
Requires a four-year degree in recreation or equivalent; three (3) years of related work experience in park and recreation maintenance preferably in a supervisory role as well as experience in food service and special event operations; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Licenses or Certifications:
Requires a valid State of Georgia driver's license or ability to obtain one within six months of hire. Requires the following certifications: First Aid; Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR); and Automated External Defibrillator (AED). Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP) preferred.
Special Requirements:
Valid State Driver’s License, First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications. Basic knowledge of computer software, such as word processing, spreadsheets, and social media is required. CPR, AED, first aid required to be obtained within six months of start date.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Considerable knowledge of recreation philosophy, planning and administration; Considerable knowledge of the equipment, facilities, operations and techniques used in a comprehensive community recreation program.
- Skill in operation of listed tools and equipment; skill in First Aid, CPR, and AED.
- Ability to develop, coordinate, and direct varied activities involved in a community recreation program; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, other agencies, participants, instructors, community leaders, and the general public; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to plan and supervise the work of paid staff and volunteers.

Starting Base Pay Rate: $26.62/hour ($55,369.60 annualized), based on experience and education.
