Recreation Supervisor - Out of School Time 
Full Time Exempt
Department: Parks and Recreation

Starting Salary: $24.45-25.06 per hour


This position is a manager-level position responsible for the operations of the Out of School Time Division. Work involves the developing, administering, and supervising a comprehensive afterschool and camp programs, supervising all OST employees. Follows department policies and procedures; co-creates goals and objectives; oversees functions and results of the department through participant, financial, and general reports. Supervises OST Program Supervisor(s).

 

The list of duties, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this classification. The omission of a function does not preclude management from assigning duties not listed herein if such functions are a logical assignment to the position.

  


  • Demonstrates responsibility and accountability for the successful delivery of OST operations and services to ensure high quality and value as a part of the overall departmental and citywide strategic direction, goals, and objectives.
  • Provides responsive and timely feedback on the status and progress of work activities, department, and city goals to staff and Out of School Time Manager.
  • Prepares, monitors, and manages the assigned budget to ensure the efficient and effective operation of the OST Division. 
  • Assesses potential safety hazards at sites, reports damaged or unsafe equipment, and takes action to mitigate risk factors.
  • Reviews all incident and accident reports daily. Provides follow-up to staff and families in a timely manner. 
  • Demonstrates knowledge of all applicable laws, regulations, and accreditation standards that impact assigned program sites and ensures compliance from staff members. 
  • Participates in the recruitment and selection process for part-time counselors. 
  • Mentors and coaches staff by modeling appropriate behavior, active listening, communicating knowledge, skills, and information, and recommending and providing training opportunities. 
  • Manages the performance of direct reports by approved departmental methods. Maintains written documentation of all performance-related actions.
  • Manages the division budget and approves expenditures from direct reports. 
  • Participates in short and long-range planning for the Parks and Recreation Master Plan, CAPRA; proposes long-range capital improvement. 
  • Communicates concerns and other potential issues to the OST Manager
  • Responsible for completing the payroll of assigned staff and ensuring its accuracy. 
  • Ensures site security protocols for emergencies are practiced and followed according to department guidelines.
  • Oversees the processing of requisitions, purchases, and delivery of supplies, materials, and equipment.
  • Oversees division operations and events.  
  • Maintains inventory of supplies and equipment.   
  • Facilitates and coordinates professional development and training for OST staff.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation, Physical Education, Early Childhood Education, or a related field from an accredited college or university. 
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience planning, implementing, and evaluating organized recreational programs that served elementary to middle school-aged children, and experience supervising staff or equivalent combination of training and experience, which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.   

 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • Certified Parks and Recreation Professional Certification is preferred.
  • Possess a valid Georgia Driver’s license (class C) and a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Report (MVR).
  • CPR, First Aid, and Prevent Child Abuse certifications or the ability to obtain within three months is required.

 

 

Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:

  • Must be able to sit, walk, and stand for long periods.
  • Can lift and carry heavy objects (10-50 lbs.) sit, bend, squat, and twist daily; must be able to physically operate city vehicle.
  • Have the ability to sit for long periods using office equipment and computers.
  • Have the ability to walk and stand outdoors (playgrounds and parks) setting including the pool while in extreme heat and cold for up to 8 hours daily.
  • Have a personal vehicle to drive for daily business on a mileage reimbursement basis.
  • Must deal with constant interruptions, noise, and meet with others on a regularly.
  • The employee may be exposed to a variety of extreme weather conditions. Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, lift, climb, and perform repetitive motions on a daily.
  • Ability to operate computer software, including word processing software; calculator; copy and fax machine; phone; mobile or portable radio.
  • Must be available to work weekdays, weeknights, weekends, and operational holidays.
