POSITION SUMMARY

This position is responsible for the coordination and execution of recreational and educational programs and events for Columbia County, particularly those serving senior citizens.

Responsibilities include program planning, event logistics, supervision of part-time staff and volunteers, administrative recordkeeping, and client assessments for services such as Home Delivered Meals. The position plays a vital role in improving quality of life for older adults and enhancing community engagement through well-organized events and services.

NATURE AND SCOPE

Successful performance in this position ensures the delivery of engaging, compliant, and well- attended programs and events. The incumbent will serve as the on-site liaison during activities, coordinate vendors and staff, manage program logistics, and maintain essential documentation, while also conducting home assessments for meal service eligibility. Work requires multitasking, independent decision-making, and excellent public relations.

Work is typically performed sitting, standing, walking, stooping, bending, or crouching and requires frequent lifting of light objects and occasional lifting of heavy objects.

Work is performed in an office or stock room and outside where the employee is exposed to cold, heat, and inclement weather. The employee is exposed to dirt, dust, and noise.

Contacts are typical with co-workers, other county departments, community organizations and civic clubs, part-time and volunteer helpers, and the general public.

Duties may require evening, weekend, and holiday work due to scheduling program and event activities.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Develops and implements monthly schedules of recreational, educational, and community events for senior adults.
  • Coordinates logistics for setup, breakdown, and day-of execution of events and programs. Performs client home assessments to determine eligibility for Home Delivered Meals.
  • Maintains accurate records including activity participation, inventory, and donations. Collaborates with marketing to develop promotional materials for events.
  • Manages administration tasks such as answering phones, maintaining database records. Maintains compliance with food safety, event safety, and departmental policies.
  • Assists in kitchen as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Strong knowledge of program coordination principles for events and senior services. Knowledge of first aid and public safety regulations.
  • Understanding of administrative filing and basic bookkeeping techniques.
  • Ability to assess client needs through home assessments and service screenings. Proficient in Microsoft Office; skilled in written and oral communication.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, solve problems, and meet tight deadlines. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Capable of supervising and motivating staff and volunteers.

DESIRABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

A bachelor's degree in Parks/Recreation, Event Management, Communications, or Public Administration, or related field is required. A minimum of two years’ experience in programming for seniors or community events is preferred. Experience working with senior adults and coordinating public events is strongly preferred. Must possess a valid Georgia driver’s license. A combination of education and/or work experience may be substituted for minimum requirements.

SALARY

$44,699.20 annually, Vehicle Allowance: $4,550.00 annually, & Cellphone Allowance: $720.00 annually.
