2026 Annual Conference Off-Site-Bike Tour
Monday, November 2, 2026 (9:30 AM - 12:00 PM) (EST)
Description
Join us for a guided off-site tour through Athens highlighting some of the city’s most scenic multi-use trails, including the new Firefly Bridge. Led by Christine Stratton, Trails and Open Space Facility and Program Supervisor with Athens-Clarke County Leisure Services, participants will explore Athens’ growing network of trails while learning how they connect neighborhoods and community spaces. This bike tour highlights connectivity to parks and recreation systems by way of the Firefly Trail, a multi-use trail system. Riders will gain insight into how greenways function beyond recreation, supporting transportation, access, and community development throughout the city.
Program Objectives
1. Promote safe cycling practices and trail etiquette while building understanding of how multi-use trails function as connected, programmable park spaces for commuters and recreational users.
2. Explore the role of urban greenways in parks and recreation systems, including how they support transportation, access, and everyday community use.
3. Identify strategies for addressing park and trail misuse and collaborating with Operations on maintenance and upkeep. Gain ideas for trail programming and partnerships with community groups to keep trails active and thriving.
